You can ask customers to agree to your Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, or other documents before continuing to payment.
To add the checkbox, configure the links in a checkout template using the API. You can add up to five links.
How do I add a terms checkbox?
You can add the checkbox by setting termsLinks when creating or updating a checkout template.
Each link needs:
- A label — the text shown to your customer.
- A URL — the web address of the document.
For example:
"termsLinks": [
{
"label": "Terms and Conditions",
"url": "https://example.com/terms"
},
{
"label": "Privacy Policy",
"url": "https://example.com/privacy"
}
]You can add up to five links. They’ll appear in the order listed in the template.
Each label can contain up to 100 characters, and each URL must be a valid http:// or https:// address.
For technical guidance, see the Guide to Checkout.
What will customers see?
The checkbox appears on the customer details step of checkout, even if you aren’t collecting customer details.
The wording includes your business name and the links you’ve added. For example:
| Links configured | Checkbox wording |
|---|---|
| Terms and Conditions | I agree to {merchant name}’s Terms and Conditions |
| Privacy Policy | I agree to {merchant name}’s Privacy Policy |
| Both | I agree to {merchant name}’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy |
Each link opens in a new tab. Customers must tick the checkbox before they can continue to payment.
If no links are set on the checkout template, the checkbox won’t appear and customers can continue without agreeing through it.
Can I use different terms for different payment links?
Yes. Terms links belong to a checkout template, so different templates can show different terms. Payment links using different templates can also show different terms.
How do I update my Terms and Conditions?
You can update the content of your Terms and Conditions or Privacy Policy as often as you need.
If you update the content at the same URL, you don’t need to change your checkout template. Your checkout will continue to link to that URL.
If you need to change a URL shown at checkout, update termsLinks on the relevant checkout template.
When updating a template, omitting termsLinks leaves the existing links unchanged.
How do I remove the checkbox?
To remove the checkbox, send an empty termsLinks list when updating the checkout template. This removes all terms links from the template, and the checkbox will no longer appear.
